The all-new 2017 Kia Niro has generated substantial interest since its unveiling last year, Now available on the Canadian market, it promises to shake up the compact SUV segment with its hybrid powertrain and seductive styling – not to mention the aggressive price tag attached to it.
As our contributor Mathieu St-Pierre wrote a few months back:
“When it comes to compact CUVs, Kia wants you to think of their all-new Niro as being everything you need, want, and more. The company was so convinced of the idea of this perfect small utility vehicle that it built a dedicated platform and developed a powertrain specifically for the Niro. It’s an impressively aggressive offering, too: At $24,995, the levels of kit and technology are superior to almost everything out there. It’s not a bad drive to boot.”

Meanwhile, the equally new Hyundai IONIQ has been making headlines with its three different powertrain options (hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric) and some highly attractive pricing.
Here's what our veteran contributor Denis Duquet had to say about it recently:
“It is a well-conceived car with a rigid platform and sophisticated mechanics able to successfully challenge the Toyota Prius. In addition, its five-door configuration makes it just as practical and versatile as its Japanese rival. On the road, it displays strong acceleration.”
