Big luxury in a big SUV with three rows of seats

GMC casts its net wide with its extensive range of consumer-pleasing SUVs. Among the models available from the American automaker, if you need to transport up to 7 people or a bunch of luggage and gear, but aren’t tempted by the gigantic Yukon, the Acadia is calling your name!

In 2018 the mid-size SUV offers two possible engines:  the base 2.0L 4-cylinder generating 193 hp, and a 310-hp V6. Both versions are wedded to a 6-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive comes as an option, or standard on certain trims.

The Official consumption ratings for the 2018 Acadia are reasonable at 9.2L/100 km (highway) and 13.5L/100 km (city). To top it off, its starting price sits in the middle of its category, if you put aside the Denali luxury version and its heftier price tag.

The 2018 GMC Acadia is largely unchanged this year, other than the addition of heated front seats, a Bose audio system and integrated 4G LTE WiFi as options.

The Acadia comes in no fewer than five versions. The two base models, the SLE-1 and SLE-2, comes with standard front – wheel drive with option to add all-wheel drive for an additional $3,000. Our test version – see the photo gallery here – was the luxury Acadia Denali, offered with enhanced comfort features this year.

The exterior design is not much different than in 2017, and inside you get advanced technologies, as you would expect. The interior is versatile and very functional, pretty much like most of the other entrants in its class, but the Denali does infuse it with an additional touch or two of luxury.

Visibility is very good in the high-set cabin, and the commands are intuitively arrayed. Driving is a pleasure, particularly when you’ve got the V6 under the hood.

The styling, lightly modernized this year, could be a point of attraction for some, and its more modest dimensions in comparison with the Yukon give it more agility on the road and in the urban environment. We expect it will continue to be solid seller throughout 2018.

Here are our specifications for the 2018 GMC Acadia Denali, and our specifications for the 2019 GMC Acadia.
