The all-new 2018 Volkswagen Atlas, which was unveiled earlier this fall after years of development and anticipation, is a 7-passenger SUV designed with the American market in mind. Series production began today at the Chattanooga, Tennessee assembly plant, and the vehicle will go on sale in 2017.
“The Atlas marks a brand new journey for Volkswagen as we enter deeper into the heart of the American market, moving from a small-car brand towards a more family-friendly lineup,” said Hinrich J. Woebcken, Volkswagen CEO of the North America Region.
It is built alongside the Passat, the result of an additional $900 USD million investment.
