The eighth-generation 3 Series sedan will come in gasoline and all-electric flavours.

BMW has made the official introductions for its eighth-generation 3 Series sedan. The 2027 BMW 3 Series introduces a notable design evolution shaped by the brand’s Neue Klasse philosophy and debuts with a dual-track strategy, offering updated gasoline powertrains alongside a fully electric sibling, the i3.

The compact sport sedan is set to arrive in Canadian showrooms during the first quarter of 2027.

Where will the 2027 BMW 3 Series be assembled?
Gasoline variants will be assembled at BMW’s Dingolfing facility in Germany, while the electric i3 will be built at the Munich plant, with high-voltage batteries sourced from Irlbach-Straßkirchen.

Note that the high-performance M3 variants — in both internal combustion and pure electric configurations — are scheduled to follow for the 2028 model year.

Design of the 2027 BMW 3 Series

Visually, the 2027 3 Series breaks significantly from tradition. The exterior adopts a streamlined silhouette defined by extremely short overhangs, flush door handles and a redesigned front fascia that stretches the signature kidney grille horizontally to integrate the headlight units.

Rear styling features slimmer taillights, while standard panoramic sunroofs with heat-deflecting laminated glass span the lineup.

Powertrains of the 2027 BMW 3 Series

Underneath the bodywork, the lineup splits across two platforms. Gasoline variants use an enhanced iteration of the CLAR II architecture shared with the X3, featuring wider front and rear tracks for improved driving dynamics.

The electric i3 50 xDrive represents the first 3 Series built on BMW’s dedicated NCAR electric architecture, using sixth-generation eDrive technology.

Canadian models will come standard with xDrive all-wheel drive.

The lineup opens with the entry-level 330 xDrive, powered by a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, capable of a 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.1 seconds. Both combustion models integrate 48-volt mild-hybrid systems paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Replacing the outgoing M340i, the performance-focused M350 xDrive packs an upgraded inline-6 engine generating 437 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and includes adaptive dampers, a limited-slip differential, quad exhaust tips and an M Sport package.

A notable addition is the Drift Moment feature, which decouples the front axle to route total power exclusively to the rear wheels; BMW notes this feature will arrive post-launch via an over-the-air update.

Up to 750 km of range
The electric i3 50 xDrive gets twin electric motors to produce 463 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque. Designed on an 800-volt architecture, it supports fast-charging speeds up to 400 kW, which can add 335 km of range in 10 minutes under optimal conditions, and adds an estimated total range of up to 750 km per charge.

The i3 also debuts an automated charging port door that opens by itself when you approach recognized charging stations.

Interior of the 2027 BMW 3 Series

Inside, BMW focused on modernizing the environment, so we find fresh seating arrangements and improved ergonomics. Designers introduced a reinvented steering wheel, which, on the M Sport variant, represents the first in a 3 Series to feature a centre upper spoke. The wheel incorporates multifunction controls with haptic feedback, alongside steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles on gasoline-powered models to give drivers direct, tactile control over the transmission.

All models come standard with a panoramic sunroof made from heat-deflecting laminated glass, enhancing overhead light while managing cabin temperatures.

The cabin abandons the traditional instrument cluster in favour of the BMW Panoramic Vision system—a display extending across the base of the windshield, complemented by an optional 3D head-up display. Infotainment is managed through a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, paired with a redesigned steering wheel featuring haptic feedback buttons.

2027 BMW 3 Series – Pricing in Canada

Canadian pricing for the 2027 BMW 3 Series line reflects a generational increase, with the starting price of the entry-level 330 xDrive set at $61,500 CAD. Here’s the full lineup:

  • - 2027 BMW 330 xDrive - $61,500
  • - 2027 M350 xDrive - $78,500
  • - 2027 BMW i3 50 xDrive - $74,900

It’s worth noting that the all-electric i3 50 xDrive offers greater output (463 hp) than the gas-powered M350 xDrive (437 hp) at a lower starting price point.
