BMW announces a series of updates for its X3 starting in December for the new model-year. The 2027 BMW X3 M50 xDrive is receiving a power bump as well as a new cosmetic option called the Black Package. Other SUV trims will also benefit from interior tweaks.
Those changes touch on both the mechanical aspects and the visual styling of the model. However, BMW notes that the power increase for the M50 xDrive will be offered independently of the optional package. Choosing the Black Package will not be required to enjoy the enhanced performance.
Powertrain of the 2027 BMW X3 M50 xDrive
Under the hood, the 3.0L turbocharged inline-six engine retains its 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Output increases to 437 hp, representing a gain of 44. The spec sheet indicates a torque rating of 428 lb-ft for this powertrain.
According to the manufacturer, the X3 M50 xDrive will now be capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds.
A Black Package for the M50 xDrive
The Black Package will be offered exclusively on the X3 M50 xDrive. On the exterior, it includes 22-inch black wheels in a Polygon 1134 M design, adding an extra inch compared to the largest wheel options previously offered on this trim.
The M Sport brake calipers get a gloss-black finish and a monochrome M logo. The M badging and model nameplates will also adopt a gloss-black finish accented by a silver border.
Inside the cabin, BMW is expanding the use of black Alcantara across several surfaces. It will notably cover sections of the dashboard, door trim, centre armrest and wireless charging tray.
The seats will combine Alcantara and Veganza synthetic leather, accented by blue stitching. Carbon-pattern trim and glass control elements complete the package.
Tweaks for other X3 models
Starting in December, the entire X3 lineup will also receive interior modifications. The surface in front of the central screen will be covered in PVC Softskin material, while the dashboard receives a new stitching pattern. Ambient lighting will be added to the centre console storage area and interior door handles.
M Performance variants and X3 models equipped with the M Sport package will feature Dark Silver door sills with a black M logo. For now, BMW isn’t sharing Canadian pricing for the Black Package or regional availability details for the announced updates.
