It’s not every day Mitsubishi gets to launch a new model to the Canadian market. Or even every year. But 2026 is one of those years, as the 2027 Eclipse Sportback EV is headed our way. The automaker says orders will be possible as of late October.
We were introduced to the model’s design back in June, which confirmed a very LEAF-like appearance. No surprise there, since the upcoming subcompact SUV from Mitsubishi stems directly from the new iteration of Nissan's electric LEAF. That of course is one of the benefits of a partnership like the one between the two Japanese automakers, which could well give rise to more shared platforms, powertrains and technologies in the coming years.
Mitsubishi confirmed today that range for its new EV and its 75-kWh battery will be up to 454 km in optimal conditions, and that the vehicle will feature two charging ports like the LEAF, so a NACS port for charging at Tesla’s stations, and an SAE J1772-compatible port for all the other stations out there.
We also now know that the 2027 Eclipse Sportback EV will come with Mitsubishi’s standard 10-year/160,000 km powertrain and lithium-ion battery limited warranty, 5-year/100,000 km new vehicle limited warranty, and 5-year/unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance.
Beyond that, Mitsubishi confirmed a base trim will be offered, along with an optional tech package.
None of that is earth-shattering news, no more than the confirmation that pricing will fall into the range of eligibility for the federal government’s full EV incentive. For exact pricing, we’ll have to wait some more. Mitsubishi says that’s coming in the “near future”.
Mitsubishi plans
The Eclipse Sportback EV kicks off a relatively busy period on the New Continent for the Japanese automaker, which it has outlined via its North American business plan, Mitsubishi Momentum 2030. Here’s what the company confirmed today:
“Mitsubishi Motors has committed to debut at least one new or significantly revised vehicle each year through fiscal-year 2030. Following the launch of Eclipse Sportback EV, the launches continue as it is joined in early 2027 by an all-new rugged, off-road derivative of the Outlander SUV, and in the future, another SUV is being planned. Additionally, the company recently confirmed the return of a mid-sized pickup truck, to be built in the U.S. with corporate partner Nissan.”
