3 –Renault Juvaquatre Taxi concept 1948
This peculiarly shaped vehicle was known as the Escoffier taxi, after its creator. Charles Escoffier was in the employ of Renault at the time, and his model was one of the finalists in a competition to name the taxi of tomorrow, which took place in Paris in 1943.
Some of these taxi prototypes were put to use on the streets of the City of Light in the late 40s and early 50s, but the story of the model is little-known today. Yet the model was much studied and influenced other vehicles that were created in subsequent years. In this respect the Escoffier taxi, built from a Renault Juvaquatre, occupies an important place in the history of the taxi.
