In the wake of the widespread emissions scandal better known as “dieselgate,” Volkswagen initiated a whistleblower program to encourage its employees to disclose information to hired investigators.

According to Reuters, which quotes German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, the initial results were positive; however, the program is scheduled to end later this month.

A number of VW employees feared they could lose their jobs if the information came to light, but the company has promised that they will not be fired or hit with damage claims if they shed light on the scandal. There are exceptions, though: Board members and levels of management directly below them are excluded from the scheme, the newspaper said.
