Mazda announced the development of an electric vehicle to be offered for lease on the Japanese market by spring 2012.
Based on the Demio subcompact (Mazda2), the car should have an operating range of 200 km and will be tested by fleet operators as well as local government agencies. The Japanese automaker says the leasing program will help increase its electric technology.
This addition to the Mazda range is the next logical step in the automaker’s development strategy, which resulted in the SKYACTIV technologies that considerably improve fuel efficiency by way of internal combustion engine, transmission, body and chassis advancements.
