Clearing up landfills
RRFB Nova Scotia, a non-profit corporation whose goal is to work with Nova Scotians to improve the environment, economy and quality of life by reducing, re-using, recycling and recovering resources, is funding 40 per cent of the pilot project.

Businesses along the road are also putting up 40 per cent of the cost, while the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal will pay the remainder.

"RRFB Nova Scotia's value-added manufacturing program challenges entrepreneurs to develop innovative technologies and business models for diverting waste from the province's landfills," said Bill Ring, CEO of RRFB Nova Scotia.

"Halifax C&D Recycling's asphalt shingle technology helps divert additional material from Nova Scotia's waste sites, offers tremendous business opportunities and is a great example of the value-added success RRFB Nova Scotia is encouraging", Ring continued.

Government will monitor the new road to determine if asphalt shingles can be used in other paving projects.
