Montreal
– The Association québécoise de lutte contre la pollution atmosphérique (the Quebec association for the reduction of air pollution, or AQLPA) is extremely happy with the significant progress that will be made mid-January when the greenhouse gas emissions produced by automotive vehicles by-law comes into effect. With this announcement, the Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks, Ms. Line Beauchamp, makes Quebec the first Canadian province to set the strictest standards in all of North America.

“This is a great step forward in improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gasses (GHGs),” says André Bélisle, president of the AQLPA, “in other words, a great step forward for public health and the environment. By adopting these new standards, the province of Quebec distinguishes itself even more among the most forward-thinking states and demonstrates great leadership, which will truly benefit everyone. In short, this is excellent news!”

The AQLPA also congratulates Minister Beauchamp for swiftly putting her words into action on this project. “Ms. Beauchamp is a woman of her word, an inspiring figure that is winning back the public’s confidence towards politicians. Her convictions and actions give us hope, and I thank her for that,” added Mr Bélisle.

The AQLPA also applauded Minister Beauchamp’s leadership on the issue of standardization. “This change in the standards applied in Quebec is a profound structural shift that will concretely reduce GHGs and improve air quality without indisposing the population. Let’s hope this announcement will be followed by several others in the same vein,” concluded Mr Bélisle.
