New Zealand racing driver Jonny Reid has told a newspaper that he is "very, very close" to breaking into formula one.
The 24-year-old, who drives for his country in the A1 Grand Prix open-wheeler championship, told the New Zealand Herald that he hopes to follow in the footsteps of the series' reigning champion Nico Hulkenberg by knocking on the doors of F1 teams.
"It would be as a test driver first, like what Nico Hulkenberg is doing with Williams," he explained.
"If it was a test with a decent team, I would go for it," Reid added.
Reid admitted that risking his future on leaving A1, where he has won three races, could be a gamble.
"That's the golden question but it's an exciting future," he said.
