My pick for the Truck of the Year is the Volkswagen Touareg TDI. This time, the vehicle's impact on its segment is nowhere near as important. But then again, the same applies for its rivals. However, Clean Diesel technology is just that, clean, and growing in popularity. As for the Touareg, it is most versatile, being able to haul the family in utmost comfort all the while being capable of tackling serious off-road conditions. It is well put together and drives better than the average SUV/CUV. To sum up; it is highly skilled and a fuel miser.

The 2010 ‘Canadian Car of the Year’ award, in my opinion, should go to the Mazda3 Sport. Its combination of style, equipment content, good performance and decent fuel economy should assure it top honours. Most have subjectively preferred the VW Golf, but not me. I just hope the Panamera doesn’t win the title; in my mind, a $172,000 vehicle shouldn’t deserve a consumer-minded award such as this one.

The 2010 ‘Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year’ is a tougher choice, because there are only three models to choose from, and none of them were the ones I accorded the highest votes to. The Touareg isn’t bad, but has been around for ages and only its engine is new, while I consider the Outback to be more of a tall wagon than a real SUV/CUV. This leaves me with a winner by default: the Lexus RX 450h.
