A clean, sophisticated exterior design gives Lancer a substantial and expensive look that stands apart from other compact sedans. The grille features a chrome surround and establishes a strong yet sporty front-end appearance. Aerodynamic wraparound headlights incorporate a jeweled multi-reflector surface for excellent nighttime visibility. The lower bumper features a large opening for efficient airflow management and engine temperature control. Sharp edged designs blend with soft curves to provide a simple and elegant side profile with large windows and convenient "pull-type" door handles. A low liftover decklid opens up to 11.3 cu. ft. of trunk space. A roof-mounted center radio antenna and front fender-mounted turn signals complement the overall European-inspired design theme.
A Mitsubishi 2.0-liter, 16-valve, 4-cylinder engine that produces 120 horsepower and 130 lbs.-ft. of torque will power all Lancer models. Power is transferred to the front wheels through either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic with Mitsubishi Motors' adaptive shift control system. Four wheel independent front strut and rear multi-link suspension absorbs road irregularities and provides a comfortable and stable ride.
