Anthony Davidson (Peugeot) proved beyond any doubt that his collarbone injuries are behind him, by taking pole position at Road Atlanta, for the American Le Mans Series' (ALMS) last race of the season, Petit Le Mans.

The event also counts towards the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC), an worldwide endurance championship. This means on the track, drivers will be fighting in two different contexts.

During the 10-hour/1,000-mile race, Davidson will be sharing the drive with Sébastien Bourdais and Simon Pagenaud. The prospect of racing alongside the two Frenchmen makes Davidson confident.

It is great to work with Simon and Sébastien, and I know we can work well tomorrow. We'll be going for the best results tomorrow as well.”

Davidson ended the session on top, albeit not by a big margin. As always, the duel between Audi and Peugeot keeps every driver honest. The gap between the first four cars (all Audis and Peugeots) is just 0.585s.

Timo Bernhard in his Audi Sport Team Joest R18 was closest to Davidson. He will co-drive the car during the race with Romain Dumas et Marcel Fässler.

In LMP2, Luis Diaz took his Level 5 Motorsports HPD ARX-01g to pole position. He aims at a second straight ALMS success, with team mates Scott Tucker and Marino Franchitti.

For LMP Challenge pole sitter Kyle Marcelli, the session was very straight forward. His team mate David Ducote suffered a heavy impact during morning practice. With the car back in one piece thanks to the crew's hard work, he just had to deliver.

“Certainly there was extra motivation,” Marcelli said.

Although he didn't sustain any injury, Ducote was taken to Atlanta Medical Center for overnight observation because of the sheer force of the crash.

In GT, AF Corse's Ginmaria Bruni drove the team's Ferrari F458 Italia to the top of the time sheet. Ex-F1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella and Germany's Pierre Kaffer will share driving duty with him.

Newly crowned GT champions Dirk Müller and Joey Hand took third spot. For the occasion, familiar BMW driver, Andy Priaulx will join them at the wheel of their M3.

The GT Challenge qualifying session saw once again a familiar Jeroen Bleekemolen (Black Swan Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup) earn first spot on the grid.
