Ryan Villopoto (Kawasaki) won his first Monster Energy AMA Supercross race of the 2010 season, in front of more than 41,000 fans in San Francisco.

Ryan Dungey (Suzuki) got the holeshot off the start, with Villopoto and Davi Millsaps (Honda) in second and third. Millsaps passed Villopoto on the first lap, then crashed on lap four, giving second place back to Villopoto.

While leading on lap 10, Dungey, who had won the last two AMA SX events, crashed and dropped back to fourth place. This moved Villopoto to the lead, Josh Hill (Yamaha) to second and Millsaps to third.

The win for Villopoto marked the third in his career. Hill finished second and Millsaps finished third.

Injured riders James Stewart and Chad Reed missed this event due to their injuries. Stewart had commented last week after coming in third that his fitness level was down because the injury prevented him from training hard. Presumable, he has decided to recover fully, and then get back up to the required fitness level before returning to the races.

Chad Reed, the other injured star, is not expected back soon. Stewart may make the next race in San Diego, next weekend. Barring any miracles, this means that Stewart is out of the 2010 championship hunt – expect him to go only for wins when he does come back to full fitness.
