Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle: 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime
As went the regular RAV4 – to the top of its category, in the view of KBB – so did its new plug-in hybrid sibling. The RAV4 Prime takes an award-winning compact SUV and makes it even more compelling, thanks to that powertrain that basically means your regular commute, if average in distance or less, will cost you basically nothing in gas.
That plus is significant, and in fact there’s no minus in comparison with the regular RAV4. The Prime drives just as well and offers the same amount of comfort, space and convenience, and while it’s too early to tell whether it will match it for durability, who’s willing to bet against a Toyota in that respect?
What KBB liked:
- All the qualities of the regular RAV4, and then some
- No other PHEV comes close to it
- No range anxiety, thanks to that gas engine
- On-demand all-wheel drive system
- Great acceleration
- Quiet, upscale interior
