Time to acknowledge that Ford won its risky bet. Despite the furor and the predictions of disaster, we have to admit the Dearborn-based auto giant made the right call with its electric crossover inspired by the famous ponycar. Purists who’d been up in arms regarding the sacrilegious use of the Mustang name  have generally laid down those arms, and the crossover is leading the company’s shift to electric mobility with solid sales.

Two big reasons for that are that the Mustang Mach-E is a) an American product, so attractive to many homegrown consumers south of the border, and b) able to offer a very positive driving experience. It may not be as exciting as the upcoming new 2024 Mustang car, but that’s not a fair comparison now, is it.

Watch for Ford in the coming months, as it may well make some changes to its longest-running electric model, just to keep up with the modern new EVs pouring onto the market.
