In accordance with its Green Program, Nissan decided to create new clean diesel engines. A 2.0-liter version should be offered in Europe as soon as spring 2007. In North America, Japan and China, however, consumers will have to wait until April 2010.

Nissan also wants to increase the availability of flex-fuel vehicles over the next three years. In the U.S., a flex-fuel Armada will hit the market next year. It will join the flex-fuel Titan, which is sold since 2004. These two trucks can run on E85 fuel.

In addition, the Japanese automaker plans on testing an electric vehicle in the beginning of the next decade, while accelerating its hybrid vehicle manufacturing program. By 2010, this program will have contributed to a 7 percent reduction of CO2 emissions compared to 2005.

An in-house Altima Hybrid
Still in accordance with its Green Program, Nissan plans on introducing in the U.S. and Japan an in-house Altima Hybrid somewhere around 2010. The first model that will be offered south of the border beginning in 2007 will use Toyota's technology.
