Unlike the US where sales are on the down-low, Canada new car sales are on the rise. Nearly every manufacturer has posted higher sales numbers in April 2007 when compared to the same month last year.

The biggest winner in Canada, by far, is Mitsubishi, with a jump of 91.1%. Other car makers that have experienced larger than average increases include Nissan (29.9%), Mazda (27%), Volkswagen (22.4%), General Motors (15.5%) and BMW (14%).

Most other makes reported increases between 1% and 9.9% including DaimlerChrysler with a growth of 6.2%. On the downside, Ford of North America witnessed a 13% drop while Volvo North America also saw a steep decrease of 16.5%. Porsche sales dropped 15% for the same period.

The time of the year and the increasing availability of new exciting models partially explain the big gains for most car makers.
