John Clark, Goodyear's principal engineer, says the tire's two aquachannels literally evacuate water from the front of the moving tire to the rear. "To improve wet handling, water must have time to flow into and out of tire tread grooves," Clark says. "At high speed, there is less time, so today's tires need higher groove capacities. A smooth road surface and low vehicle weight also contribute to loss of traction."Clark says that, "Aquatred 3's aquachannels and directional lateral grooves actually facilitate the flow of water from the front to the rear of the tire. The possibility that water will build up in front of the tire is reduced."
