A considerable number of the cars that set out on May 1 to drive around the world in 80 days are still on the road and should be starting their Canadian crossing on June 14.

The "Around the World in 80 Days Motor Challenge", as the event is officially called, started from London's Tower Bridge and is scheduled to end there on July 18.

Two days in Dawson City in the Yukon Territories is the first stop in Canada, at which point the cars will head south through Whitehorse on June 16, Watson Lake on June 17, Terrace, B.C., on June 18, Smithers on June 19 and 20, Prince George on June 21, Kamloops on June 22, and Banff, Alberta on June 23 and June 24.

For the next 10 days or so the cars cross the northern United States before popping back across the border at Sarnia on July 3 and heading through Glencoe and Welland to Niagara Falls where they will take July 4 off.

After Niagara Falls, the vintage cars cross New York State and leave New York City on July 7 headed for Morocco. Then it is across various European cities before the final stop in London.

Sponsored by the British-based Classic Rally Association, this race claims to be the first motor rally to circumnavigate the globe.

Given the state of many of the roads that the cars will encounter and the almost total lack of services along the way, it would be a considerable challenge for a new vehicle. Imagine a 50 year-old one!
