Starting in mid-2008, Audi will be putting the cleanest diesel technology in the world into series production. With their ultra-low emission system, the new TDI engines combine the spontaneous performance and superior pulling power of today's TDI power units with outstanding fuel consumption figures and incomparably low emissions. Since they comply with the forthcoming Euro 5 emission standard years in advance, these TDIs represent the future of auto engines.
Thanks to their extremely low emission levels, these cutting-edge direct-injection diesel engines can be put into service anywhere in the world, even in California where the most stringent emission limits are enforced. Compared to the average fleet consumption of petrol engines typically fitted in the U.S., the TDI offers fuel savings of up to 35 percent. Such savings will help reduce our dependence on fossil fuels as well as our greenhouse gas emissions.
Audi continues to work on the development of ultra-high fuel-efficient cars. The A3 1.9 TDI e, for instance, has a fuel consumption rating of just 4.5 litres/100 km and CO2 emissions of only 119 grams per kilometre. Engineers are also making headway in the field of hybrid technology and vehicles that run on alternative fuels.
