Not many cars cause heads to whip around faster than the Audi R8 GT, which debuted a year ago already. Today, the German manufacturer added another dimension to its creation with a Spyder version. The 333 units produced will fetch 207,800 euros (around 294,708 Canadian dollars) in Germany.

Performance nuts will certainly appreciate the fact that the machine has shaved off 85 kg compared to the R8 5.2 FSI quattro.

The trimmer body pairs nicely with a 5.2-litre, FSI V10 punching out 560 hp and 398 ft-lb of torque that allows the beast to bound with a intoxicating roar from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds en route to top speeds of 317 clicks.

A six-speed R-Tronic transmission deploys all that grunt to the four wheels, as the R8 Spyder obviously enjoys Audi’s quattro AWD system.

A double wishbone suspension lowers the ride by 10 mm, and 19-inch wheels wrapped in 235/35 tires in front and 295/30s in back connect it to the road.

Braking is handled by carbon fibre ceramic brakes, and the electronic stability program (ESP) includes a sport mode and can be deactivated for a greater adrenaline rush.

Style-wise, the R8 Spyder features titanium grey accents. An electrohydraulic soft top retracts in 19 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h, and the bulkhead includes a rear glass window and rollover protection system.

Inside, black is the name of the game, both in terms of material and leather. Buyers can add a touch of refinement by way of contrasting grey or crimson stitching.

Finally, each machine is identified by a plaque on the shifter bearing the serial number.
