Ford driver David Besnard was lucky to escape from this massive accident during the Bathurst 1000 after crashing hard into the wall, which split fuel all over the racetrack and caused a huge fire.

Besnard's Jim Beam Racing Ford Falcon hit a tire wall at more than 250 kph on the 112th lap of the 161-lap endurance race, spilling fuel which then ignited along the track.

Fire marshals and track workers were quickly on the scene to put out the inferno and ensure the 34-year old Besnard's only injury was fire extinguisher foam in his eyes.

Ruptures of fuel tanks rarely happen nowadays and the remains of the car will undoubtedly be inspected to understand why it happened this time.
