GM, Lyft to launch autonomous Chevrolet Bolt taxis in 2017

Self-driving Chevy Bolt taxis will hit the streets within one year thanks to the recently announced partnership between General Motors and ride-sharing service Lyft, a rival of Uber.

The Wall Street Journal first reported the news, adding that the automaker will use technology from Cruise Automation, which it acquired earlier this year.

We don’t know how many cars or which cities will be part of the initial trial, however, as details are still being worked out.

GM and Lyft currently rent the Chevy Equinox to drivers needing vehicles in Chicago, but that program will expand to more cities and will rely heavily on Bolts in the future instead of the compact SUV.
