Big deal!

I don’t think there’s anyone who’d refuse a good deal. The automotive industry knows this and will conjure up all kinds of strategies to convince the buying public that they saved tons of money.

Besides direct rebates and, arguably 0% financing, other types of promotions and incentives seem alluring but are of little value.

Like Hyundai’s recent 30 cents a litre less on gas promotion. Such a rebate sounds interesting, until you read the fine print and discover that the offer is good for 1,000 litres. Do the math: that’s only $300.

Still, it’s better than nothing.

Getting nothing is what a “no payments for 90 days” promo is all about; you’re not actually saving 3 months worth of car payments, you’re merely pushing back the end of your finance term. If you can’t afford a new vehicle now, how can you afford it just 90 days later? Maybe if a rich uncle is about to croak or you’re waiting for a big juicy income tax return. Other than that, beats me.
