Crossfire Finally Gets the Power Its Superb Suspension Deserves

The SRT nameplate has become synonymous with performance, with one of America's fastest supercars displaying it proudly after its Viper nomenclature, and the world's quickest pickup truck dubbed with the same SRT-10 badge. Even the less than wealthy get the opportunity to own one of the most powerful compacts on the market in the new SRT-4.

The one recurring theme obvious to each of these vehicles is the brand that builds them, Dodge, which makes the addition of the Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 an anomaly. Still in the family, the SRT-6 pulls its power from lofty company, the revered Mercedes-Benz AMG division.

It's more or less the same supercharged V6 that powers the current SLK32 AMG, the next-generation SLK AMG gets a V8. The Crossfire SRT-6's supercharged 3.2-L power unit produces a substantial 330-hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, ample to charge the little two-seater right up to the front of its category. What's more, 90 percent of the engine's peak torque is available from 2,300 to 6,200 rpm, a very broad powerband.

Chrysler's upcoming Crossfire Roadster will also get the supercharged treatment, making the SRT-6 version the most powerful among its immediate peers.

Chrysler will choose Geneva to debut the new SRT-6 cars as they will spearhead the brand's assault on the European continent, developing much needed recognition for the Chrysler brand, which to be fair was Chrysler's intention for them in the first place - as it is with any halo car made by any automaker.
