BMW's new X6 is creating its own market segment aimed at customers wanting the go-anywhere utility of an SUV combined with the stylish elegance of a BMW coupe. The X6 delivers a commanding ride height, spacious interior accessed by five doors, and two cutting-edge twin-turbo engines.
The X6 xDrive35i is motivated by the automakers 3.0 liter inline six engine with direct injection technology and twin turbochargers to deliver a potent 300 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft of torque. The award-winning engine will help deliver 0-60 in about 7 seconds, driving all four wheels through a six-speed automatic.
Also available is the X6 xDrive50i, with a 4.4 litre V8 that also utilizes twin turbos and variable camshaft management. The mill delivers 400 horsepower and a massive 450 lb.-ft of torque, making it the most powerful "X" model in BMW's lineup. Both twin-turbo engines are designed to deliver serious performance alongside very respectable fuel mileage.
BMW's latest gadget makes its debut on the X6 lineup as well. Dynamic Performance Control works with the automatic XDrive AWD system and enhances vehicle handling dynamics by controlling the rear-wheel torque split as it sees best for the situation. It's also able to multiply the torque to either rear wheel to help steer the vehicle.
Pricing starts at $63,900 for the X6 xDrive35i which hits dealerships next week. The X6 xDrive50i starts at $78,100 and goes on sale later this summer.
