The BMW M3 driven by Muller-Farfus-Alzen-Lamy won the prestigious 24 Hours of the Nurburgring after it benefited from a string of problems that hampered the leaders.

After four consecutive years of Porsche domination, BMW took victory this past weekend on the grueling 14-mile long circuit of the Nurburgring.

Porsche was in a good position to win the race with their stunning hybrid 911 GTR but the car qas forced to retire with just one hour to go.

The No 1 Porsche Mantey led the race from the start but was damaged in a collision after 7 hours of racing. Amazingly, the Audi R8 LMS that took over the lead was also damaged in another on-track incident!

Two other R8s traded the lead until both were stopped with mechanical problems. The hybrid Porsche took over the command of the race until it was forced to retire in the pit with terminal engine problems in the 23rd and last hour of the race.

The BMW M3 of Jörg Müller, Augusto Farfus, Uwe Alzen and Pedro Lamy crossed the line in first place.

The F430 Ferrari of Farnbacher, Simonsen, Keen et Seefried arrived home a surprising second while Audi had to be content with the third-placed R8 LMS of Rostek, Ludwig, Bronzel and Winkelhock.
