As for quality evidenced by the DTS's fit and finish, Taylor said that ''literally hundreds of criteria points have been strictly adhered to throughout the development of the vehicle, and the result is outstanding fit, finish and overall harmony of the elements.''
Taylor said the DTS is executed to some of the tightest tolerances in the industry, which resulted in ''extremely tight surface-to-surface relationships that enable the vehicle to appear as if it were crafted from a single piece of billet steel.''
As for price, we can probably look for DTS to cover about the same ground as the Deville did, but it will still be a bargain for those folks who think that bigger has to mean more expensive. ''We have a big sedan that costs less,'' Taylor pointed out with relish.
Overall, Taylor is extremely confident that Cadillac's older, traditional buyers will respond well to the DTS. In the first place, none of the other luxury brands offer a model designed specifically for this buyer base, and that gives DTS a monopoly. Lincoln Town Car might play some role here in the future, Taylor allowed, but right now it's only profile is as a limousine.
So things will be looking good for the DTS when it goes on sale later this year, Taylor believes. ''This car will more than get the job done,'' he said.
