Antoine L'Estage and Nathalie Richard took advantage of Pat Richard and Leann Junnila's misfortunes during Rallye Défi to extend their points lead to 41 in the Canadian Rally Championship standings, according to Flatovercrest.com.
“That puts us in a very comfortable position in the championship”, summed up L'Estage, whose 2011 Défi win marked his seventh consecutive win in Canada.
Pat Richard and Leanne Junnila drove their Subaru Rally Team Canada Impreza to a mistake on Friday. They had to reach out for help after getting lost and running out of fuel. The organizers subsequently excluded them from the rally. Handing second place over to 'Crazy' Leo Urlichich.
Urlichich and co-driver Martin Brady had an impressive rally. Their Can-Jam Motorsports Subaru underwent some modifications, and according to reigning champion L'Estage, they paid off.
“This is probably the closest Leo has ever been to me in terms of pace”, he said. “But that’s on the more open, faster roads, we’ll see how he can do in the tight and twisty stuff.”
After some initial driveline problems on Friday and a puncture on Saturday, they were able to lay down some fast times, even earning some stage wins.
In third spot, Craig Henderson and Lyne Murphy enjoyed a quiet rally.
Of the two wheel drive teams, the Zedril brothers were fastest, ahead of Eric Grochowski and co-driver Keith Morison.
