Polesitter in Trois-Rivières this weekend, Quebec driver Nick Wittmer was unable to do better than a top-five and a podium in the two events surrounding the GP3R 40th anniversary celebrations in the Canadian Touring series.
Dealing with brakes issues all weekend long, Wittmer and teammate Jean-François Dumoulin did what they could to take home as much points as possible. Wittmer’s championship lead is therefore considered a good result.
Étienne Borgeat won both events in Super Touring. He finished in front of Mathieu Audette and Paul Dalla Lana on Saturday. Dalla Lana was later disqualified for technical infraction, which meant Alex Healy completed the podium. Wittmer and Dumoulin followed.
On Sunday, Alex Healy took the second spot on the podium after Audette’s technical problems. Wittmer completed the podium and took back the championship lead in front of Greg Pootmans, victim of various problems in Trois-Rivières.
In the Touring division, Kenneth Lau, Patrick Séguin and Sylvain Laporte completed Saturday a podium unexpectedly without any championship leaders – Anthony Rapone and Alain Lauzière were both victims of the track, one with technical difficulties and the other as a result of an incident on track.
The 32nd place starter Réjean Vincent who finished in front of Lau and Simon Dion-Viens, for the first time in a Mini Cooper of Team Octane, won Sunday’s race. A contact between Laporte and Lau allowed Vincent to take the lead midway in the 30-minute race.
Lauzière now leads the Touring class in front of Rapone heading to ICAR for the last doubleheader of the season, in two weeks.
