Organisers of the "Chamonix Revival 2012" recently confirmed the cancellation of the ice racing event that was scheduled to be held February 24-26, 2012 at the ICAR motorsport facility in Mirabel, Quebec.
The event was designed to recreate the famous 24 Hours of Chamonix ice racing event that was held for more than 20 years at the footstep of the Mont-Blanc. It would have welcomed rally cars from 1973 to 1981 era, notably the Ford Escort MK2s, Porsche 911s, Talbot Lotus, BMW 2002s, Lancia Stratos, Fiat 131 Abarths and Alpine-Renaults.
In a short press release, event organisers said the event was cancelled “because for the past three months, Europe is suffering from the effects of a major economic crisis. Early October, we had some 25 entries. But because of the difficult times, this number has dropped to just 15. In these conditions, we cannot stage the event”.
However, the organisers mentioned that the inaugural event has been postponed to March 1-3, 2013 again at ICAR near Montreal.
