One of California's busiest highways will be closed this coming weekend, and many people are expecting gridlock, mayhem and road rage. And since the American media likes to find catchy titles to important and not-so-important events, it's been called Carmageddon.

Cry us a river.

The 405 freeway will close between the 10 and the 101 freeways from Friday, July 15th in the evening to early in the morning of Monday, July 18th. Part of the Mulholland Drive bridge will be demolished and rebuilt.

Metro Los Angeles is asking the population to plan ahead, stay home and basically avoid the area around the highway closure for the whole weekend.

While this may sound like all hell's going to break loose, and people will be stuck in gridlocked traffic for a day's length, the event has been publicized so much in the media that a large portion of the population is, we assume, aware of the road work and will plan their weekend consequently.

Local restaurants, bars, attractions and hotels will try to cash in on the, ahem, event by offering all sorts of Carmadeggon weekend deals, rebates and freebies.
