Ford EcoSport
With the EcoSport, Ford joins the lengthening list of manufacturers producing entries in the subcompact SUV segment. Chevrolet showed the way with its Trax, followed by Buick with the introduction of the Encore. In their wake a number of other carmakers joined the fray in response to growing marketplace demand. For Ford, the decision to take on this market segment was an easy one, especially as the company already had a model in this category, produced for the European and Asian markets. While it’s true that the first generation of that model generated its share of criticism, some of it quite severe, the company claims to have addressed the major concerns and developed a model that will be the equal of its competitors, and allow the carmaker to repeat its success with the Escape in the compact category and stake out an important share of the market. The EcoSport is assembled in Turkey.
