Because safety is a major concern for new car buyers, Meyers said, Vibe will offer all-wheel drive and anti-lock brakes, seat-mounted side airbags, remote keyless entry, a full feature security system, and OnStar communication and emergency assistance.
Under the hood of the Vibe on display at the LA auto show was a 1.8-liter, 16-valve, 4-cylinder engine that sends 130 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 125 pound-feet of torque at 4200 rpm to the front wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission.
There'll also be a Vibe GT, which will get a slammed-up version of the 1.8-litre engine that delivers 180 horsepower at 7600 rpm and 130 pound-feet of torque at 6800 rpm through a 6-speed manual shifter.
"Customers have clearly told us what they want – the commanding view and capable cargo space of an SUV, the power of a sports car, and all-wheel-drive security," said Meyers, adding that she thinks that "Vibe has it all."
