As cool as it might be to own a regular everyday Dodge Charger, imagine how Daisy Duke cutoffs cool it would be to own the first production Charger and the autographed race car body used in the world reveal at
the Detroit auto show, and to get the keys from some good ole boy named Petty, and we don't mean Tom, at the Nextel Cup race in Darlington.

In case you missed Charger's reveal on the endless TV replays, Chrysler hid a model of the Brampton-built sedan underneath an outsized mock shell of Kasey Kahne's No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger. When the time came to reveal the production car, the mock shell was lifted away.

And, yes, the Petty presenting all this on May 7 will be Richard ''The King'' Petty, who set the fashion and conversational tone for the stock car series on his way to winning seven NASCAR titles.

That's what you can happen if you're the big dog in an eBay auction to raise money for Victory Junction Gang Camp and various Salvation Army Charities.

Petty and Kahne took part in the introduction of the vehicle representing the past and present of Dodge participation and sometime dominance in NASCAR racing. The NASCAR shell has been autographed by Petty, Kahne and Chrysler Group president and CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche, who is a guter alter junge from Deutschland.

Bidding in U.S. dollars will begin at http://www.ebay.com/charger on February 1 and will close on February 11, 2005.

''The reveal of both the production Dodge Charger and Charger race car struck an emotional chord with NASCAR fans and Charger enthusiasts alike,'' says Zetsche. ''In fact, during the first week following the press conference, the Dodge Web site received more than 300,000 'Charger hits' and more than 50,000 handraisers requesting more information on the car.''

That lead the German-owned company to think ''what better way to support two worthy charitable organizations than by auctioning both items and offering the chance to meet the King himself, Richard Petty,'' says Zetsche.

Victory Junction Gang Camp is a not-for-profit organization founded by actor Paul Newman and Kyle and Pattie Petty, with the goal of enriching the lives of children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses.

The Salvation Army is of course dedicated to caring for the poor, feeding the hungry and clothing the naked world wide.

Richard Petty's 36 NASCAR Cup Series victories in a Dodge Charger rank as more than any other Dodge Charger driver in history. Petty drove a Dodge Charger during his NASCAR driver championship seasons in 1972, 1974, and 1975.
