Chevrolet yesterday launched the unique "Panel" variant of its retro-crossover utility vehicle. Geared towards small businesses who will be able to customize it to fit a variety of needs, the HHR Panel starts at just $19,480 for the LS model and $22,120 for the LT.

Gone are the side windows and passenger doors in favor of windowless panels and cargo doors. Two seats reside up front, the rear area reserved for some 57 cubic feet of cargo space, with 5 more cu. ft. of storage under the covered floor. Said floor also comes with strategically placed cargo tie downs, to ensure all items along for the ride arrive intact.

As an added bonus, customers who plan to use the HHR Panel as a courier vehicle can benefit from the available OnStar driven turn-by-turn navigation which uses GPS satellite information to trigger voice guided prompts- taking drivers directly to their destination one turn at a time.

The HHR Panel seems a clever idea for a business which doesn't require huge cargo carrying capacity and wishes to save on fuel costs. For instance, the smaller 2.2 litre engine consumes just 7L / 100km on the highway, according to GM.

"The one-of-a-kind HHR Panel model offers tremendous value in the small crossover utility segment to business customers, upfitters and enthusiasts and will help continue GM Canada's strong growth in the small utility segment," said Marc Comeau, vice president of GM Canada sales and service marketing.
