3:00 PM - Chevrolet has just officially introduced its new Corvette Z06.
The C6 Z06 will be powered by a 7.0-litre LS7 V8 developing 500 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. It features a host of upgraded mechanical components, including 14-inch front brake discs, which are bigger than on the outgoing C5 Z06 model. The new Z06 is capable of reaching 304 km/h, or 190 mph. Chevy also presented the new C6R, the race version based on the Z06, which will replace the C5R. The Corvette's interior is unfortunately covered in sub-par plastics.
The all-new Chevy Cobalt and Cobalt SS are now available. Their looks are much improved over the Cavalier that they replace. Both interior fit and finish are also by far superior to the outgoing GM bestsellers.
A redesigned 2006 Impala and Monte Carlo were displayed for all to see in Detroit. The Impala's lines have more fluidity and make the car look more modern. The Monte Carlo shares the new front end with the Impala but retains its old taillights and rear bumper. Base engine has grown to the 3.5L V6. Optional motors include a 3.9L V6 that develops 240 hp and the SS inherits the 5.3L V8 equipped with DOD (displacement on demand) used in the Bonneville GXP. Its output is of 303 hp.
