The mid-level GL still has the puny steel wheels and no Bluetooth for a little over $15,000 with the manual, and a grand more for the automatic. Scrape the change out of the couch and get the GLS.
It’s easy to see where Mitsubishi’s Eclipse got its reputation as a chick car: it’s not that long ago that no average-sized man could fit into it. They fixed that little problem, but there are those who will say that the Eclipse is now officially past its prime — 2012 will be its last year, but I think there’s life in the old girl yet.
I have a particular fondness for convertibles, so let’s talk about the Spyder. It may not offer the same road-hugging qualities as the late lamented Honda S2000, for example, or the Miata MX-5 (frankly, the benchmark by which all other chick cars should be measured), but it makes up for it with a more comfort-tuned ride that will please city-dwellers and highway-cruisers alike.
As well, it still looks damn good, and isn’t that, after all, the primary function of a convertible? On the downside, it’s kinda pricey (starting at $30,498), but if your interest is piqued, you better get it while you can.
Whether you’re young or old, short or tall, thick or thin — or somewhere in the middle of it all — at the end of the day, what really matters in a new-car purchase is that it make you feel great. There are dozens of new cars on the market. If the one you’re test-driving doesn’t make you feel gorgeous, powerful and full of the promise of even better things to come, get out, close the door behind you, and move on to the next one.
Just like husbands!
