Alibaba, the Chinese e-commerce giant that rivals eBay and Amazon, reportedly plans to launch a connected car by 2016. Its founder, Jack Ma, is one of the wealthiest people in all of Asia.
According to German publication KFZ, the company has teamed up with a domestic automaker, namely SAIC, to make it a reality. The product of this joint venture would be able to communicate with other cars on the road that are equipped with similar technology.
This comes shortly after reports that China's search engine leader, Baidu, also has plans to create a connected car. Will it be a self-driving model like the one Google is currently developing in the U.S.? We don't know.
