factory-to-dealer allowance and a Dealer Advertising Association contribution.

The new base model features an energetic 16-valve, dual-overhead cam 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine producing 150-horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 162 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm, connecting through to a 5-speed manual transmission - a 4-speed automatic is optional. In this specification the car received Natural Resources Canada's 2004 EnerGuide award for most fuel efficient special purpose vehicle.

The PT is tall, allowing for generous headroom and ample cargo space, that increases to more than 1.8 cubic metres (64 cubic feet) when the rear seats are folded forward.

Of course, the PT Cruiser can be fitted with options, including a dash-mounted multi-disc CD player, leather seats and 180- to 220-horsepower turbocharged engine upgrades. A convertible model is also available, offering room for four and exceptional luggage space.
