And, it's not! I'm personally very concerned about the environment. To me, a vibrant domestic automotive industry and environmentally friendly actions are not mutually exclusive. However, the best approach toward these issues is to synthesize the overall interests which means for us -- the manufacturers -- and the U.S. government to work together on future actions. We definitely will further improve the fuel efficiency of all our vehicles while not forgetting about the other areas like safety, customer preferences, technology, and others. And we'll continue to invest heavily into future environmentally friendly technology, mainly fuel cells, where we, DaimlerChrysler, have spent $1.4 billion so far. Fuel cells provide an excellent example of government-industry cooperation. As I've found in my 25 years of experience, the best solutions are always found collaboratively.
Overall, at Chrysler, we will take on whatever we are faced with. We've never been better equipped to handle the ups and downs.
It's taken some time and we are not through yet, as we're a bit less than halfway through our turnaround plan. We've set aggressive milestones and we met them so far and we intend to continue achieving them, including breaking even this year.
Today's opportunities as part of an extended family, only provide more assurance that we will get there. We are now "turning the tide."
In the end, whatever else may happen, we will always use our core strengths to take us to prosperity. Our greatest strength is truly American. It's the passion of our 100,000 employees. It's fed by the passion of America for its automobiles. As the CEO - and along with my COO and senior executives -- we'll provide the leadership. That's our job!
