Chrysler's Windsor, Ontario plant – home of the Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country and Volkswagen Routan minivans – is now idling because of a shortage of engines.

According to Rick Laporte, president of CAW Local 444, the automaker has been struggling to produce enough Pentastar V6 engines at its Trenton, Michigan plant.

He added that Chrysler was currently diverting engines to assembly plants building vehicles in high demand, a move aimed at preventing delays in car deliveries to dealers and a potentially huge sales drop.

The company has said it is looking into the situation but is still awaiting the outcome of a vote on the tentative, four-year contract with the United Auto Workers.
