| Will the reduction in technologically advanced driver's aids add or subtract from potentially catastrophic accidents such as the one between Ralf Schumacher's Williams BMW and Rubens Barrichello's Ferrari at the Australian Grand Prix last year. |
If the resulting squabble doesn't improve off-track excitement the changes on the racecourse should drive up television ratings initially at least, as spectators will be tuning in just to see what's happening to motorsport's most aspiring series. Rest assured the unrest should spawn a new level of competitor hostility, driver's spats and, dare I mention, journalistic intrigue. All in all, F1 will be an altogether different experience in 2003.
Will we see Minardi taking podiums, Jaguars lapping Ferraris and Canada's notoriously candid Jacques Villeneuve winning his second world championship? Not too likely just yet. When push comes to shove MS will no doubt end up on top, but hopefully having to wait a little longer to get there.
