On October 4th, DaimlerChrysler will hold a special shareholder meeting in Berlin to decide on future strategy and a new name for the company. A fall meeting had already been announced though no date was set.

Apparently, Berlin was chosen over Stuttgart as the meeting site for organizational reasons and costs. DaimlerChrysler had held annual shareholder meetings at the Berlin Congress Center for several years.

No company names are confirmed yet, though "Daimler AG" has been proposed to distinguish it from "Daimler-Benz" as used in the past. This name might suffice, though it would disappoint historians and critics who have already expressed concern as "Daimler AG" doesn't use names of both company founders -- Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz.

DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche says he wants to accommodate critics by changing the name of the factories that manufacture Mercedes-Benz cars and trucks from Daimler plants to Mercedes plants.

At the meeting, Zetsche is expected to outline the company's future direction.

In May, DaimlerChrysler agreed to sell an 80.1-percent stake of the Chrysler group to private equity firm Cerberus Management, ridding themselves of a nearly 10-year-old merger which didn't turn out as expected, to say the least.
