Javier Pizzolito's hopes of taking the 450cc class victory in the 2010 edition of the Dakar Rally vanished Friday as his motorcycle suddenly caught on fire.
"I am so disappointed," the Argentine said. "I didn't get it. The motor was on neutral. There were sparks and then everything burned. Maybe a short circuit?"
Javier Pizzolito, 29, was hoping to win the 450cc category and the overall top-20 of the 2010 Dakar Rally. He did not even get a chance to start.
He is currently leader of Argentina's Rally Championship.
The Dakar Rally got underway yesterday afternoon in Buenos Aires, Argentina. A total of 362 drivers took the start (151 motorbikes, 134 cars, 52 trucks and 52 quads).
