Digital storage experts Seagate and Automotive electronics experts HarmanBecker have teamed up to create an interesting new technology named D.A.V.E. (Digital Audio Video Experience). An portable storage solution, D.A.V.E is designed to make in-vehicle multimedia experiences even better.

Now more than ever, today's motorists and their families want to be entertained and connected on the go. This is evidenced by the explosion of all-in-one infotainment systems like MyGig and Sync from Chrysler and Ford, respectively. These systems make it easier to transport and enjoy one's favorite tunes on the go, among other benefits.

Here's where DAVE comes in. It will be available to automakers who wish to offer customers a storage upgrade for their in-vehicle entertainment systems. Using industry-standard wireless and communication protocols like WiFi and Bluetooth, a 60 gigabyte hard drive can be 'added' to the system. DAVE is intended to act as a portable central hub for folks who want to take their favorite movies, music and TV shows with them on the go.

A prototype D.A.V.E. will be on display at the Seagate booth during today's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. In this case, it's hooked up to a Chrysler MyGig system- which was, incidentally, designed by HarmanBecker.

"This collaboration by Seagate and HarmanBecker is a huge leap forward in closing the gap between the automotive and consumer electronics lifecycles enabling consumers the ability to experience their digital content in their vehicles," said Patrick King, senior vice president and general manager of Seagate's Consumer Electronics Business Unit. "Seagate's D.A.V.E Technology enables wireless storage for many different applications, with the automotive market being one of them."
