The 48th edition of the 24hrs of Daytona is approaching mid-race as we are approaching the 12 hours of racing.
As planned, the top position was shared by the Pruett/Rojas/Wilson/Papis, Patterson/Valiante/Allmendinger/Frisselle, Dixon/Montoya/Franchitti/McMurray and Johnson/Gurney/Fogarty/Vasser teams through the first half of this race.
Darren Law was leading as we wrote those lines approaching the 11th hour of this race. He shares his #59 car with Donohue, Haywood, Leitzinger and Raphael Matos. They had been close to the lead prior to this moment as they were second past the 9th hour.
If this rhythm keeps going as it should, we will have a famous name from another series on this podium in just a little bit more than 12 hours. Although anything could happen during this second half of the race, either Wilson, Allmendinger, Montoya or Vasser would do another series honours by winning this mythic race.
Montoya’s team is probably the one that was constantly closer to the first spot as they showed up in first or second position through most of that first half of the race.
In GT, the George Jr/Pumpelly/Bernhard/Dumas/Labonte team has been the one closer to the lead as it constantly showed up in second position in the category for most of the first half of the race.
Although the team formed by Liddell/Davis/Magnussen was leading the GT class for the past couple of hours, it was Jorg Bergmeister that was leading the pack 10 minutes to the 11th hour of the race.

The green flag was waved under wet conditions. Although the highlights of the first couple of hour show some minor incidents, none seems to be of major preoccupation.
